DO BRITISH CITIZENS NEED TO CHANGE THE GREEN RESIDENCIA DOCUMENT FOR TIE?

Whilts it is not compulsory to do, it is highly advisable, even if it is just to avoid headaches.

Increasingly more and more businesses are requesting to see TIE instead of the green card. Although both documents are perfectly valid, it is just easier to get TIE and not having to fight with them.

Attached for your information there is a document composed by the Spanish government that confirms which residencia documents are currently valid to prove you are legally resident in Spain, just in case you need to show it to someone.

You will also need to prove your language skills (A2 Spanish level) and your general knowledge of the country.

If I am resident in Spain and I have children, DO THE CHILDREN NEED TO BE REGISTERED ALSO AS RESIDENTS EVEN IF THEY ARE UNDER AGE?

YES, every foreign citizen living in Spain, regardless of nationality or age has to be registered as resident in Spain if they are going to live here for over 3 months in a row.

I HAVE THE WHITE NIE CERTIFICATE. DOES THIS MEAN I AM RESIDENT IN SPAIN?

NO, the NIE is just your Número de Identificación de Extranjero, it is the number that identifies you within the Spanish system but it does not mean that you are automatically registered as resident.

If you only have the white NIE certificate and you live in Spain you will need to register as resident as soon as possible, mainly if you are British citizen.
